As delighted as I was to walk the site, what struck me most was the kindness of the Gordons and their understanding of what the location means to fans of Laura's works. The dugout is located on their own private property, and could easily be closed to the public. Instead, they maintain a gravel road to the site, which passes by a few feet of their own home, in addition to signposts and a parking and picnic area. They ask a goodwill donation of $5/car. We were the only visitors at the time, and I understood the appeal of the location to the Ingalls family. Beautiful, peaceful, and welcoming.

My kids love coming here and playing in the creek...just like Laura did forever ago! There are picnic tables, parking and trash cans, but no bathrooms or facilities of any kind. 5$ admission per vehicle, $30 for buses.

I visited this place back a few years ago and I absolutely loved it. I love Laura Wilder's books and of course I treasure the tv series. I'm glad that I was able to share this experience with my daughter.

However I was not impressed of the upkeep.

Very nice, well marked trails and signs. Dream come true for my wife. All two seconds of it, until the children started teasing each other. This site is a great service by the Gordon family. Thank you!

A great site and quite wonderful for the family to provide access to the site. The site itself it still fairly well preserved, given the type of structure it originally was (a dug out). It was short and very nice detour from the Museum, well worth the trip. A $5 donation is recommend, I do recommend donating since the site is on private land and the family is gracious enough to open access to the public.
